Behind the Shroud

As winter thaws into spring, something sinister keeps the sleepy town of Lucidiss in chills. Ten lives have been claimed by a mysterious killer, and whispers point to a figure once adored—an eccentric jester rumored to have retreated into madness.

Summoned to investigate is Pendelve the Parser, a detective with three beasts and a sharp mind. As he unravels the puzzle, he finds more than he bargained for: an old feud reignited, a shadowy foe lurking in the fog-drenched riverlands, and a deadly game where every move might be his last. In the midst of peril, an unlikely bond begins—offering a dark insight, and perhaps a key to the killer’s next move.

Both me and my grandchildren enjoyed the book. Lots of drive, good atmosphere for a thriller, lots of mystical elements... The Mad Jester is a super character in general) It will be interesting to read the sequel, if there is one.

Reviews

It is one that reminded me of other favorites like Sherlock and Doctor Who ha. Well written, good read!

I enjoyed reading this book because the mystery kept me guessing until the end. The way the story mixes danger with surprising friendships made it even more interesting.

It's rare to find a compelling mystery story encased within a thorough fantasy world. This story is completely and utterly both, interwoven in a way that appeals to my crime fanatic as much as my fantasy nerd.

This had me hooked from the first page! The eerie atmosphere of Lucidiss, combined with the complex detective Pendelve and his strange companions, made for an interesting read. The plot was full of twists I didn’t see coming, and by the end, I was left eagerly waiting for the next shocker.
